Biography

The inspiration behind the Ponseti International Organization, Dr. Ignacio Ponseti was born in Cindadela de Menorca and moved to Barcelona, Spain when he was eight years old. Ignacio graduated from Medical School in 1936, one day before the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, which he later served as a medical officer for three years.

 

Ignacio then spent one-and-a-half years in Mexico before coming to the United States to finish his orthopaedic training with Arthur Steindler.

 

Dr. Ponseti has been a member of the University of Iowa Medical School ever since.
